Disclaimer: I am in no way asking anyone to stop the Duggars from having children, harming any of them in any way etc…This is just a matter of rant and opinion.

The Duggars family is fascinating to many people, me included. They have a huge hoard of children, and parents, like me, who struggle with one or two are astounded by the organizational skills of Michelle and Bob Duggar, and the way they seem to cope so well.That being said, I have run across many forums where the Duggars are a frequent topic for discussion. A lot of people defend condescending comments about the Duggars’ decision to continually spit out more children, with, “it’s their business and no one else’s”.

WRONG! The Duggar’s growing brood is EVERYONE’S Business!!! Here are a few reasons why:

Earth’s Resources:

Earth’s resources are limited, and on the whole, our civilization have acted like termites, and plowed all of the forests down. Our trash heaps have towered tall and wide and we are running out of room to put trash. Pollution is at an all time high, and the Duggars are selfishly adding to this tenfold.

Michelle and Bob Duggar are not only overpopulating the earth by themselves, but they are teaching every single one of their 18 (and counting) brood to believe in the “quiverful movement”. That means every single one of those children can have a potential 18 (and counting) brood of their very own. And that brood can do the same and so on and so forth. Soon we’ll have a Duggar infestation! Someone call Terminix please!

This is not to mention that the Duggars are “inspiring” other families to follow their birth control is against god’s wishes philosophy. *starts humming Monty Python’s Every Sperm is Sacred song.*

Overpopulation of the United States (and the world):

Look at China. What did they do when their country became overpopulated? They outlawed any family having more than 1 child. What a mess that lead to! Parents wanted boys to be an heir and take care of them in their old age. Couples were, and still are aborting babies at all months gestation if they found that the baby was a girl. If they did not find this information out until after the baby was born, the infant girl was either killed, or ended up at an orphanage. This offset the balance between males and females, and men are having a hard time finding wives, This has lead to many kidnappings in China1…Boys are kidnapped by families that don’t have a son, and girls are being kidnapped to be wives for son’s or even for sex slave rings.

First of all, I don’t want my rights or my children’s rights, to having more than one child, revoked because some family took it unreasonably overboard and had a billion children and overpopulated the U.S.! And I certainly do not want to be in the same mess China is in.

Duggar’s Finances and Responsibility:

The Duggars claim that they are self sufficient, and can afford all of their children, so why not? First of all, they are influencing families to “honor god’s wishes and have every child god gives you” beliefs, and not every family has the ability to finance such a brood. The Duggars are supplementing their income massively by TLC, and fans. I concede, that with these types of incomes, the Duggars are quite self sufficient, but that may not always be the case.

The following are scenarios that the Duggars, their following generations, or other families influenced by them, could possibly face:

1) What happens if Michelle and Bob Duggar unexpectedly pass away do to an unfortunate accident? Who will be taking care of their huge brood? Is it possible, that some of them might have to go into foster care, or receive government help?

2) What if one or more of their children suddenly need a heart transplant or some other unforeseeable medical issue. Perhaps their insurance is not good enough to cover all of the costs, would the costs land on tax payers?

3) What if life throws a curve ball their way, and suddenly they find themselves destitute. Once again tax payers would have to pick up the tab.

These are only some of the questions, that any family who wishes to follow in the Duggars’ lifestyle should ask themselves. And these are some of the reasons that it is in fact everyone’s business.
