Why Did Logitech Stop Making The Best Mouse Ever?
by Jade's Bark on Nov.28, 2009, under Computers and Electronics
Being tired of trying to outbid other Logitech MX1000 Cordless mouse on Ebay, I wrote a letter to Logitech explaining why they should put out the MX1000 or something that is at least equivalent.
Here is my letter and Logitech’s reponses. Unfortunately they will probably ignore my requests, but I figure it is worth a try;
Dear Sir or Madam,
I realize that this is probably the incorrect department to help with this issue, but as it was the only online contact I could find on your website, perhaps you will humor me, and direct my letter to the correct department.
I am writing regarding your mouse model MX™1000 Laser Cordless Mouse: I have loved this model mouse for many years. My entire family began to use it as well, after I declared it the best mouse ever made. Whenever me or my family members mouse was worn out, we would purchase new ones until they were no longer offered on the sales shelves at retail stores. Over the years we have fought with other MX™1000 Laser Cordless Mouse fans tooth and nail with bid wars for this item on EBAY, usually sent over from China. Apparently we are not the only insane ones that value our comfortable mouse buddy. This mouse is in popular demand, probably due to the comfortable shape, and most definitely all of the universal buttons in the proper places. The forward and back button, the side to side scroll, and the THREE buttons above the thumb area! Perfect for gaming and other programs! I have searched all of your new mouse models, and none compare. With the knowledge that people are having bid wars over this old model of your Logitech mouse, would your company not put out an identical model?
Thank you for your time. A response would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Ms. XXXXXXXX,
Thank you for contacting Logitech Technical Support.
As I understand you want to know if we are still going to produce a product identical to that of the MX1000.
Important,we can no longer produce a product identical to that of the MX1000. Logitech aims to create
better products by enhancing their current ones to be able to create future products.I reviewed the MX1000 features and I would like to recommend to you our MX1100 mouse. This is the
upgraded version of the MX1000. Physically the shape is almost identical. the only different is that the
rubber grip on the side of the thumb have small dots to produce better grip. Also the side buttons are still
there. The scroll wheel has been improved. It now has the Hyper Scrolling capabilities. Instead of browsing
long files per page, by activating the Hyper Scroll, you can browse long documents by just one flip on the scroll
wheel and stop it if you see that you are now on the right page. You can activate this by clicking on the small
button located at the lower part of the scroll wheel.http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/mice_pointers/mice/devices/4676&cl=us,en

Are you kidding me?
Dear Ms. Regina,
Thank you very much for taking the time to reply to me regarding the MX™1000 Laser Cordless Mouse. Please allow me to exlain why the logitech MX1100 (which we have one) is not good enough to replace the MX1000, nor is any other mouse good enough for gaming especially as an example.
Will add Pictures Later
The MX1100 does not have two buttons above and below the scroll, it only has ONE. Now please allow me to give an example of a very useful game macro for assigned buttons… Button UP =Run Button Down=Stop, Scroll button LEFT= Heal Target, Scroll RIGHT= Attack target, then you have THREE buttons above the thumb area… The mx1100 only has TWO; Thumb button forward=Target Last, CENTER BUTTON=Heal self, and THUMB back=CURE…. Of course these are just examples of what you can do to enhance your gameplay. This also applies to different programs… The point being that on the mx1100 you have at least 2 buttons short of what the mx1000 has. I am not arguing that the technology is not better than the mx1000, simply that there is no mouse that has all of the buttons and in the position of the MX1000, and that this mouse is so loved, that people are willing to bid alot of money on it on EBAY for a brand new one. Would it be so hard for logitech to put out one with identical buttons and positions AND its advance technology??
Thank you for your time.

I think the following response was there officially polite blow off… But my wishful thinking side would like to believe that in the future we will see a REAL equivalent to the MX1000, all because I wrote to Logitech =)
